Elliptical Cross Trainer

The elliptical trainer was first introduced in the market place in 1995 and is highly recognized as a major development since that time. Reebok was the first to introduce the cross trainer with its moving arms which allows the trainee to develop an upper and lower body workout routine.

Cross trainers are known for:

* Excellent exercises which are easy on the knees, joints and hips

* Low maintenance and maintaining low overhead costs

* Their small size when compared to treadmills

The machines themselves vary in both style and design. A high cross trainer can cost well over a thousand dollars although not everyone can spend this kind of money on a cross trainer. Basic cross trainers cost much less and many of the machines which are sold today include both high quality and construction which is built to last a lifetime.

It only stands to reason that the more expensive the cross trainer is the more elaborate its features and style will be. An important consideration when you decide to purchase a cross trainer is the area where you will house your unit. You will certainly want to select an area that will provide the necessary space for it to reside and enable you to properly use it at any time. You should avoid a situation where the cross trainer does not fit within the space that you have selected.

Some samples presented on the internet display all sorts of optional equipment which is generally sold as accessories. Usually these machines are motorized and will rightfully deliver the needs power to operate it effectively.

Be sure to check on the warranty which comes with the machine. Most units have a one year warranty but are sure to locate a well known brand with an on-site warranty. Often times the manufactures will warrant certain parts for 15 years while others are guaranteed for only two years.

What are the programs and how do l benefit?

It is very difficult to exercise with your routines when you are both the trainee and the trainer. For this reason alone the idea of purchasing a cross trainer with a guide may be the proper course of action to take. These guides will have a pre-set or customizable program to increase your motivation towards using your exercise equipment on a daily basis.

Some of the more expensive machines now provide a controlled heart beat program to monitor your heart rate. By following the included instructions you can decrease or increase your heart rate by modifying the resistance of the cross trainer. This simple act makes your heart beat close to the pre- programmed rate. This method represents a safe way to exercise and keep your body in shape while enjoying the benefits of increased weight loses.

Elliptical Exercise

The process of exercising is currently becoming the most popular means of improving ones fitness especially when the exerciser desires to tone their body up and improve their physical health.

The Elliptical machine provides an enjoyable exercise routine for many people who desire to exercise and need to develop their endurance slowly. These people need to exercise with ease while at the same time making use of the various muscles within their body. These machines make use of movements which are basically the same as running, jogging or cycling. Many people have discovered that these machines are essential for their exercise performance at home. With one of these great machines in your home you will find no need to visit the local gym in order to workout. Even if you visit the gym you will more then likely find this equipment within your gym surroundings.

The machines are readily available for your home and they have been made cost effective so that everyone can afford one. You can often times purchase your new exercise equipment on installment plans where you make monthly payments. Many times you can find the same equipment available online enabling you to make effective comparison studies of the prices as well as reading the various reviews often posted by current owners of the equipment.

Elliptical equipment is very durable offering very high standards of manufacture and usually comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee that topically states that if you the customer are not 100% satisfied you can receive a complete refund of your purchase price. This refund policy is not the sales stores or the salesman policy but the manufacturer themselves. They fully feel that if you are not satisfied with the product that you should rightfully be able to return it and get your money back.

It isn’t necessary to exert a tremendous amount of pressure on the equipment while exercising as the equipment is quite flexible in allowing you to be able to adjust the speeds and with selection of the training programs that are pre-installed. The machine is very easy to use and it comes with a simple to understand manual and a DVD to help you through your workouts.

The equipment claims to be better for exercising than other exercise activities such as the use of treadmills or jogging and does not require considerable pressure to be effective. This machine can be readily used by those individuals who need to burn off excess weight and helps them develop abdominal muscles.

If you have never tried out this type of exercise equipment previously then I would recommend that you visit your local gym or perhaps purchase one of your own and feel for yourself how wonderful you can actually feel. You will more then be likely satisfied with the results that you see. Keep in mind that this is the same equipment that you will find in the local gym. If you happen to be the kind of person who keeps his or her body in great shape then this machine is for you.

3 Ways to Get in Shape

There are many reasons why people want to get in shape. Some because they have put on a few pounds and can’t wear their favorite clothes. Others just want to tone up a little. Still others want to build muscle. Then there are those who’s doctor has told them they need to start exercising in order to lower their blood pressure and improve their cardiovascular system or any list of health issues that can be helped by being in better shape. So then comes the question, how do I get in shape?

If you haven’t exercised at all, maybe start out by walking. Walking is a great way to start getting those leg muscles working and to get your cardio endurance built up. Start out at a pace you are comfortable with and then each day walk a little farther and a little faster. You want to be able to get your heart rate up and the only way you can do this is to increase your distance and speed.

Maybe you have already been walking and are ready to increase your workout. Start jogging. Basically, you do the same thing as walking. Start out jogging maybe a mile or whatever distance is comfortable. Once you reach that point, make yourself go just a little further. Then when that distance is comfortable, then pick up your speed. As with walking, you want to get your heart rate up and keep it up for at least 20 minutes.

If you want to get an overall body workout and a cardio workout, then maybe consider an Elliptical Trainer. Most gyms will have Elliptical Trainers or you can buy your own and have it home where it is more convenient for you. You will get a great upper and lower body workout, you can program it to whatever level of fitness you are at, whether you are just beginning or you run marathons. The other great thing about an Elliptical Trainer is it is low-impact, where running and walking on a hard surface can bother your ankles, knees, hips and back.

Are you looking for a way to get in shape?

Schwinn Ellipticals

Schwinn equipment consists of both elliptical trainers as well as stationary exercise bicycles. The company provides sponsorship in all bicycle category competitions ranging from racing to designs. The Schwinn’s company comes originated in 1895 when lgnaz Adolph Arnold and Schwinn created their first machine naming the newly formed company “Arnold Schwinn”. The first manufacturing location was in downtown Chicago. In a short span of thirteen years Schwinn purchased his partners share of the business and developed the company to what it is today. The Schwinn name is known world wide as a reliable and trustworthy manufacturer of all sorts of bicycles as well as commercial and home fitness Schwinn type Ellipticals.

These ellipticals are mainly used at home rather then in a commercial environment however they are well suited in either location. The products are geared for all levels of exercise from the newly established beginner to the professional athlete. Schwinn products are of particular interest to those who desire to exercise in order to improve their health.

The optional Airdyne fan allows a person to workout both their upper portion of their body effectively by utilization of the handles and pedals with its variable resistant which is directly proportional to the human body’s movements.

The schwinn 418 represent an entry level elliptical while the 428 and 430 deals more completely with higher rates of monitor levels. They come with the three speed, adjustable fan and twenty pre-installed and easy to use programs which simulate different exercise conditions.

The ellipticals are a wonderful exercise machine. If you are familiar with Schwinn bikes then you will not be disappointed when using the elliptical since the company places the same quality in all their products. The company makes two machines that are moderately priced which are the model 418 and model 428P.

Many people feel more comfortable when using the elliptical since the flywheel is placed at the rear end of the machine. This arrangement is similar to those found in the commercial gyms. Usually elliptical equipment comes with the flywheel in at the front of the unit. Generally the pedals have movements which support the heel of your foot and this makes it easy for you to use. It’s is usually recommended that you tryout the various models of equipment in the store prior to actually making your purchase.

The schwinn machine makes use of automatic brakes which is an extremely quite operating unit. The model 418 comes with a six month warranty and if you happen to be unhappy with your new equipment the company will cheerfully refund your money with no questions asked. They try to encourage their users to provide them with feedback concerning the machines so that they can make any necessary modification to them to keep the customers happy.

Elliptical Trainer-How to Purchase

It can often be very confusing when you decide to purchase an elliptical trainer and you have to determine which trainer is the best deal for your money. You will need to take into consideration the vast number of features and functions which are readily available on the various models that you review for your purchase. Most of the trainers are created by reliable manufacturers and these brand name items are usually considered the top of the line in health related equipment.

It is important that you know what features you are looking for in a unit as well as the extras options that you may want to include in it. Before you decide to seriously purchase one of these items from your local merchant you should consider the type of the trainer that you will need as well as the features that you consider to be of importance. The best elliptical trainer which you may locate will usually consist of dual action bars, the ability to customize your individual workout plan, one with an increase in resistance when desired and it should have movable pedals.

Some of the equipment producers advertise their elliptical trainers to be the best that can be found but you would be wise to take this advertising with a grain of salt and do your own research on the equipment. A bit of serious search and comparison of the prices will provide you with an idea on just what you can expect to spend for the particular type of style and features you may want.

When you decide that you want to select the best elliptical trainer that you can find you will quickly realize that in order to do so require considerable knowledge on the different types which are available and then you must determine the price range which suits your personal budget. The major aim in selecting the right elliptical trainer is to find a good quality unit which you will have fun with when you are using it.

You will find that there are various designs of elliptical trainers on the modern market at this time and as these machines become known the manufactures make additional machines with updated features to satisfy the increase demand. Because of different designs being manufactured on the current market it can be extremely hard for you to search for the correct elliptical trainers. I have provided a short run down on points of interest when considering a new machine. There are three drive systems available for the elliptical trainers; rear drive, front and center drive. Within these there are sub-categories which include adjustable stride and motion trainers. If you have ever used an elliptical trainer in a gym then you used the rear drive version. Rear drives were the first to be used in many clubs and gyms and they still dominate the gyms as they give a smooth workout. There are the most expensive on the market and they can cost up to three thousand dollars each.

Elliptical Fitness

Many people these days are getting something better then your common treadmill when they want to exercise. No it isn’t a bicycle either but rather what is known as an elliptical machine.

You may have heard of one of these machines in the newspaper or your favorite magazine. They are commonly called not only elliptical machines but also plain elliptical, cross trainers, fitness machines, gliders or exercisers. These machines tend to offer the fitness fan a low-impact exercise program. These elliptical are appropriate for various fitness level and will maximize your time that you spend exercising but offers less wear upon your bodies’ joints. Elliptical add a certain amount of variety to any exercise program while maintaining a positive attitude towards the fitness routine itself.

When someone mentions an elliptical machine they are talking about an exercise system that is slightly different then the popular cross country machines from the 80′s. These machines come in both commercial styles and residential versions.

With an elliptical machine you can provide a degree of various workout combination with no effort at all. While most of the model tends to simulate human walking actions some will perform as stepping, skiing or cycling. Keep in mind that the term elliptical machine is broad and covers a lot of styles.

Not every machine called an elliptical are the same as cross trainers. Nor can they offer a full workout routine. Granted manufacturers may perhaps claim that their elliptical machine can effectively replace all your other workout equipment you will find that many of the current fitness experts recommend adding an elliptical to your existing program not as a replacement.

The elliptical machine is ideal for any person who desires a low-impact exerciser for use indoors. These machines will provide the person with a full cardiovascular program without developing the normal boredom that is often associated with exercisers.

The elliptical are excellent for those individuals who wish to burn the maximum amount of calories in the shortest amount time possible. Manufacturers often claim a person can burn up to 720 calories each hour using the elliptical machine. Granted the exact amount depends upon many different factors associated with your exercise program itself.

When you decide to do some training on your elliptical machine you can develop a complete workout routine in only a short time frame with no difficulty. These programs are great for any age and exercise level. If it happens to be a component of a fitness gym you are provided another fine piece of exercise equipment that can vary your routines greatly. However, in the privacy of your home the machine can easily simulate a variety of specific exercises. Often these machines will provide you with a complete cardiovascular exercise workout in only thirty minutes per day. This type of exercise program can provide an exceptional boost for any weight loss agenda. It is also a first-rate option which can assist seniors who want to develop their own individual workout program without damaging their sensitive joints.

The Best Cardio Intervals for Fat Loss: Part 2

By: Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

http://www.neusight.com/burnfat.html

If you don’t have variety in your program, you are more than likely to end up at a fat loss plateau soon rather than later. Variety is one of the keys to keeping that fat loss coming.

So not only should you have variety within your training week (i.e. alternate between two different interval training workouts, rather than just doing the same interval workout each time), but you should also change these workouts every 4 weeks.

So you need to change your training program every 4 weeks. To modify your interval training workouts, you can…

switch exercise methods (and even use bodyweight exercises for intervals)

increase or decrease the length of the interval (while decreasing or increasing the intensity, respectively)

increase or decrease the number of intervals per workout

increase or decrease the rest time between intervals

First, let’s take a look at the interval methods. Here is my list of preferred ways to do your intervals, ranked in order from best to worst, based on my experiences…

Sprinting outdoors (and hills might be the absolute best)

Strongman movements (Farmer’s walks, tire flips, car pushing)

Bodyweight interval circuits

Treadmill running

Stationary cycle (upright preferred)

Stairclimber

Rower

Swimming (only works for competent swimmers)

Elliptical & Crosstrainer machines

Okay, so how long should you do intervals and how the heck do you do bodyweight exercises as interval training?

First, I stand by what I said in Part 1. There does not seem to be a “best” interval training program. But that is good because it allows us to use variety in our approach. (So perhaps the best interval training method is simply the one that changes every 4 weeks.)

Interval recommendations have ranged from 15 seconds (from Muscle Media waaaay back in the late 90’s), to 5 minutes (these are known as aerobic intervals). So let’s take a look at each interval recommendation and all those in between.

15 seconds

The great thing about 15 second intervals is that you’ll be able to work at a very high rate (almost near your maximum power output), as long as you get adequate recovery between work intervals. The downside is that it is very difficult to do 15 second intervals on machines, because it takes a long time to “build up” and “bring down” the machine settings to the correct speed.

If you decide to use these short, high-intensity intervals, you should do so only if you already have an above average level of fitness. Your rest interval should be at least 15 seconds long, and can be as long as 60 seconds. The longer you rest, the harder you will be able to exercise in each interval.

20 seconds on, 10 seconds off

This method is known as the Tabata protocol, after the Japanese scientist that published a study on this routine. It is very demanding (obviously), and while some trainers have suggested this is the best method for interval training, I don’t think there is any proof that you will get better results.

Clearly, the pro’s with this method (as well as the 15 second intervals) is that you’ll get your workout done faster (provided you do the same number of intervals as any other workout). Again, it would be very difficult to perform this type of interval training on a machine, due to the time lag as you increase or decrease the settings. And finally, these too should only be performed by above average fitness levels.

30 seconds

The Turbulence Training workouts tend to use a lot of 30 second intervals. Beginners will rest up to 90 seconds between intervals, while advanced fitness levels will rest 30-60 seconds. The longer (relative) rest allows you to work harder in each successive interval (i.e. you’ll almost be able to match your performance in the first interval with each following interval). Short rest intervals (as in the Tabata protocol) will lead to a dramatic drop-off in performance with each interval. You can easily do the 3-second intervals on any machine.

45 seconds

These intervals are proven for fat loss, in addition to being effective for many team sports (such as hockey, soccer, basketball, and rugby). I have used 45 second intervals extensively in both areas of training. Not only will these tax your muscles, they will also tax your will to complete each interval (if done at the right intensity). Use 45-90 seconds of recovery between intervals. Do 3-6 intervals per workout. Your fitness and fat loss will skyrocket.

60 second intervals

Similar to the 45 second intervals in benefits and toughness. Use 60-120 seconds of recovery between each.

120 second intervals

These are now officially aerobic intervals, and can be used for both fat loss and improving aerobic capacity for sports and running. A great way to achieve two fitness goals at once. Exercise for 2 minutes and then recover for 2 minutes. Repeat 6 times. These workouts take longer (obviously), but can have a role in changing your body and improving your performance.

5 minute intervals

Same strategy as with the two minute intervals. This really increases your workout time, so these are only used with serious endurance athletes.

Beginner vs. Advanced

If you are thinking that these intervals all sound “too intense” for you, please don’t worry. Interval training is all relative. You don’t have to sprint for your life in each type of interval. Instead, just work at a slightly harder than normal pace. By the end of the interval, you should be getting tired, but you shouldn’t be gasping for air. Start conservatively and you will get the hang of it.

For example, if you regularly use level 5 on the stationary bike for 30 minutes continuously, you might try doing a 1 minute interval at level 7. Try that for an interval workout and let me know how it goes.

My favorite intervals for fat loss are between 30-60 seconds. These have been the staple intervals in my Turbulence Training workouts since the first workout was designed back in 2001. But again, I think you will get your best fat loss results if you vary your interval training workouts – just like you must vary your strength training workouts.

Intervals are the secret to success,

CB

P.S. Do you need to lose a post-vacation belly?

“Craig, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been using your Turbulence Training System to whip myself back into shape after a vacation and too much time in front of the computer getting a couple of projects completed and I’ve dropped 10.2 lbs. of bodyfat in the last 28 days. As a fellow fitness professional I can safely say that it’s the best and most efficient approach to improving body composition that I’ve come across.”

• Cardiovascular session, you should be training at 75% to 85% of your max heart rate – you calculate this by using 220 minus your age, ie at 35 years old, would be 220-35 = 185 m/h/r. You should be training between a heart rate of 139 to 157.

• Use a training diary to continuously monitor performance and to provide motivation.

• Use the correct supplements and proper diet.

• Get enough sleep.

Heroes Training Tips

Train with a partner if possible or seek the help, advice and assistance of your gym instructor.

Follow the supplement guide and proper diet program to get the best results from your training.

In most exercise routines intensity is a key factor. You can increase intensity by limiting the rest time between sets, completing more reps or using more weight.

Get enough rest. Your muscle will only develop and grow when you are resting.

It is very important not to over train as this can have detrimental effects on your development and your health.

Take a few days off at the end of each training cycle. This allows your body to recuperate before starting a new training routine. If you are using the muscle, power or athletic routines this is really important – these are very intense training routines.

Drink plenty of water.

Training routines are a guide only and can be changed to suit your circumstances.

For the cardiovascular exercises different equipment can be substituted as required eg treadmill instead of exercise bike.

It may at first be necessary to increase rest times between sets and then gradually reduce them.

Never lift weights so heavy they cause you injury – you should never use more weight than you can comfortably lift.

Sports supplements are not medicines and are not designed to treat, prevent, or cure any medical condition.

Always check with your doctor before starting any kind of exercise or supplement regime especially if you have any kind of medical condition.
